Many parents who have children
with special needs have purchased ionKids products and have found them
to be devices that have changed their lives. We have found that
our devices can really help monitor a child (or children) with Down's Syndrome or Autism. If
your child has Down's Syndrome or Autism you know how quickly
they move and how rapidly they can disappear from view. IonKids
products can help you keep track of your child so they are safe.
Some parents have asked that we
make adjustments to our devices to make them 100% waterproof.
There are two areas where water can enter the Wristag: through the
speaker vents on the front and through the recharging connectors
on the bottom.
Since parents have told us that
the Wristag "beeping" is not as important as is waterproofing we have
been testing by covering the speaker vents with clear silicone.
It will make the face waterproof so the child can wash their hands /
arms and even take a bath or shower with the Wristag on and not ruin the
device. (Please note that covering the vents with silicone will greatly
muffle the sound of the beeper.) We are currently working on making the
recharging connectors on the bottom 100% waterproof. We also are
intending to make the next production run of Wristags (being produced
during the summer of 2004) with a waterproof membrane on the inside to
prevent water from entering through the speaker vents. At present,
if you put a thin cover of silicone over the speaker slits the device
will stay watertight to about 18" deep in water. Do not put
silicone over the charger contacts since it will make it so you cannot
recharge the Wristag.
If you have a child with special
needs and would like to discuss how ionKids products can help, please
feel free to call our CEO, Bob Frank. Bob
is a former school teacher and is very interested in the well-being of
children. He is committed to helping children with Autism or
Down's Syndrome and will work with you to make the devices as
useful as possible. If you are interested he will make sure the
Bluespan team seals the speaker vents for you and thoroughly tests your
Wristags prior to sending them to you. Bob's direct line is
512-731-1303. If you have comments, questions or suggestions
please feel free to call Bob or write to him at
